A Storied Past: The History of the Library

Built in 1938, the original Stillwater Public Library stood as a cornerstone of learning, imagination, and civic life for nearly a century. Generations of residents remember its grand entrance, its quiet reading rooms, and the sense of discovery that lingered in its stacks.

Over the decades, it served as more than a place for books — it was a shelter for thought, a gathering space for neighbors, and a backdrop for countless memories. As Stillwater grew, so too did the needs of its library, and eventually, the city’s library services moved to a new home, leaving behind a beautiful yet underutilized historic building.

Rather than see it fade into obscurity, we saw something else — a rare opportunity to give the space a new story while honoring the one it already told.

Our Vision: The Bookend Hotel

Our dream for The Bookend Hotel is simple but ambitious: to create a one-of-a-kind hotel that feels both rooted and remarkable — a place where history, hospitality, and design come together in perfect harmony.

We’re restoring and reimagining this beloved building with care, preserving its architectural integrity while thoughtfully introducing new life. Each room will reflect the spirit of the library, with curated details, warm textures, and unexpected moments of delight. The hotel will feature a period-correct bar, an event space for meaningful gatherings, and partnerships with local artisans and creatives.

But most of all, we envision The Bookend Hotel as a place of connection — where visitors, locals, alumni, and dreamers come to relax, celebrate, and feel at home.

This is more than a hotel. It’s a place with a past — and now, a vibrant new future.
